URBAN JAZZ LOUNGE - April Fool's Day!

I really enjoyed working with DJ Johnny Lewis and Station Manager Peter Moore from THE Radio Caroline, for a unique April Fool’s Day program … The film The Boat That Rocked was the inspiration for an April Fool’s day joke, that surprised thousands of listeners across the FM airwaves, on Saturday.
Radio Caroline is the actual pirate radio station that the film The Boat That Rocked, was about. The ship DID go down, just like in the film that starred Bill Nighy, January Jones, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Emma Thompson; however, management purchased more large ships, and have continued to broadcast to today!
Well, the Boat That Rocked premiered 8 years ago on April Fools Day.
And so, together with a collection of SFX including a creaking boat, footsteps on shipping metal decks, and seagulls; a complete program was engineered as being “broadcast” from the Northern Seas, instead of the Chandos St, St Leonards studios of Fine Music.

The sting was revealed in the last few minutes to the listening audience, with myself introducing Johnny, and both of us concluding “hope you’ve enjoyed our joke”, and finishing with a tongue in check track, “Fun Out Of Life”, sung by Madeline Peyroux.

Billie Holiday – the anniversary of Billie Holiday’s birth is on April 7; she was born in 1915, and lived a life as troubled, as her music was soulful.
